An evening with Jill Barber & Michael Kaeshammer Tour Dates Announced August 22nd, 2010

We are very pleased to announce that Jill Barber and Michael Kaeshammer will be heading out on a national theatre tour this fall with engagements in Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Quebec, Ontario, Manitoba, Saskatchewan and Alberta (BC dates to follow in 2011!) Check out Tour Dates section for details. In the meantime, Jill Barber is currently in studio recording her forthcoming full-length album, due out in April 2011.

Artist-in-Residence at The Banff Centre March 27th, 2010

Jill is currently artist-in-residence at the Banff Centre, nestled in the Canadian Rocky Mountains, where she is busy composing songs for a new record.

Heading South for SXSW... March 9th, 2010

Upcoming Tour dates in BC, Alberta, Quebec and the Maritimes!! January 13th, 2010

Jill and her handsome band of suited men will be hitting the road at the end of the month of January with dates in Airdrie, Kelowna and Nelson. Following that, they will reappear in Montreal on February 3rd, kicking off a tour of Quebec with dates in Quebec City, Sherbrooke and Rimouski. Finally, Jill and the band are thrilled to be returning to the Maritimes to play Halifax, Lunenburg, and Truro. This tour also includes two special performances with symphony orchestras. On February 7th in Saint John, NB Jill will be joining the New Brunswick Youth Orchestra for two shows (2pm and 7pm) at The Imperial Theatre to help celebrate the city of Saint John's 250th Anniversary! On Valentine's Day Jill and her band will be performing alongside Symphony PEI at the Confederation Centre in Charlottetown, PEI. What a great idea for a V-Day gift for your sweetheart!

Stuart McLean: A Vinyl Cafe Christmas Tour Dates Announced August 21st, 2009

Attention Vinyl Cafe fans: Jill will be a special musical guest on Stuart McLean's annual touring Christmas extravaganza tour. This is not to be missed. The tour will hit all major centers between Victoria, BC and Ottawa, ON (except Winnipeg- sorry 'peg!) Tickets go on sale August 27th, 2009. Never too early to start planning ahead for the Christmas season, right?!

'Chances' Australian Album Launch & Tour Dates Announced August 20th, 2009

Jill Barber will be touring Australia this October/November in support of the release of 'Chances' down under. She will be hitting the road with a three-piece band and performing dates in support of Australian guitar legend, Jeff Lang. Please see 'Tour Dates' for more info.

Jill Barber's Chances Makes Polaris Long List!! June 15th, 2009

Toronto, ON - 2009 It was announced this morning that Jill Barber’s latest album Chances is included in the Long List for the 2009 Polaris Music Prize. "To be judged solely on artistic merit and included alongside some of the finest Canadian albums of the last year, it is a feather in my hat to be sure," says Barber. The Polaris Music Prize awards $20,000 to the artist who creates the Canadian album of the year. It is judged solely on artistic merit, without consideration of genre or record sales. Past winners have been Final Fantasy for He Poos Clouds (2006), Patrick Watson for Close To Paradise (2007) and Caribou for Andorra (2008). The Polaris Music Prize Short List of 10 nominees will be revealed at a July 7th media conference at The Drake Hotel in Toronto. The 2009 gala event will be held on Monday, September 21st.

The cherry blossoms are in full bloom in Vancouver, BC and it is putting me in mind of warmer weather, and with it comes a handful of summer festival appearances across Canada. Jill Barber to Perform on East Coast Music Awards Live Broadcast, March 1st, 2009 February 24th, 2009

Jill will be performing her song "Oh My My" live from Corner Brook, NFLD on the broadcast of the East Coast Music Awards on Sunday, March 1st. You can catch the show live at 8:30pm NT/8pm AT/7pm ET on CBC’s digital channel bold or on the internet at cbc.ca/eastcoastmusic. The main CBC Television network will broadcast the East Coast Music Awards at 11pm in all time zones/11:30 NT. Jill is nominated for four ECMAS this year for Entertainer of the Year, Album of the Year, Female Artist of the Year and Jazz Recording of the year. The awards show will be hosted by Jian Ghomeshi and Damnhait Doyle and will also feature performances by Hey Rosetta!, David Myles, Christina Martin and many more.

On December 10th in Cornerbrook, NF, the East Coast Music Association announced its lineup of 2009 music and industry award nominees. Jill was thrilled to have been nominated in four categories: Entertainer of the Year, Female Artist Recording of the Year, FACTOR album of the Year and Best Jazz Recording of the year for her latest record Chances. The awards ceremony takes place in Cornerbrook, NF on March 1st 2009.

For those that believe they don’t write songs like they used to, there is new hope for old romantics: sultry Canadian chanteuse Jill Barber is picking up the “torch” where the golden age of music left off. On her latest album Chances (October 14th, 2008, Outside Music) Barber takes a giant step forward from the typical confines of the singer-songwriter and delivers an album of original, fully orchestrated songs that could be easily mistaken for classics. Unabashedly romantic, the album harkens back to a bygone era, though it is difficult to pinpoint any one period of music in particular. Reminiscent of such greats as Edith Piaf, Patsy Cline, and Etta James, Chances gives a gentle nod to the old standards while making way for a new era of modern love songs.
